Chronic Coil Failures, Defective From the Start

I installed this refrigerator in January 2023 at a vacation rental property that sees only occasional, seasonal use. Within weeks of installation, the unit required a technician visit for a coil failure. Two months after installation, in March 2023, I purchased a Whirlpool Extended Service Plan, not because I wanted to, but because the unit had already shown it could not be trusted. Timeline of failures: ™€" Early 2023, within weeks of installation: first coil failure requiring technician visit ™€" February 2024: coil replaced under extended warranty ™€" July 2026: same coil issue returns ™€" August 2026: same issue again within weeks of the July repair This unit has now failed three times with the same defect in roughly three and a half years of light, seasonal use. A primary household refrigerator would see far more use in the same period. The same component has failed repeatedly, proving that no repair has addressed the underlying defect. I also purchased every other appliance in this property from Whirlpool ™€" washer, dryer, cooktop, dishwasher, and oven ™€" trusting the brand entirely. That trust has not been rewarded. I spent hours on the phone with Whirlpool customer service over the past month seeking a permanent resolution. No meaningful solution was offered. Then, when a technician was finally scheduled to come out in August 2026, Whirlpool cancelled the appointment by email stating that the assigned technician no longer works for the company and that they no longer service the area where my property is located. Let that sink in: Whirlpool sold me an appliance, sold me their own Extended Service Plan, failed to fix the product across three separate repair attempts, and then informed me they cannot even service the area. They took my money and walked away. The consequences: food spoilage for guests at my rental property, out-of-pocket repair costs, and the forced purchase of a replacement refrigerator entirely at my own expense. I am now pursuing formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the New York State Attorney General's consumer protection office, and am exploring small claims court to recover my costs. I am not writing this out of frustration. I am writing it because three failures of the same component on a lightly used unit is not bad luck. This refrigerator has a chronic, unresolved manufacturing defect. And when Whirlpool was finally forced to act, they discovered they cannot even service the area they sold the product in. Whirlpool had every opportunity to make this right. They chose not to.

Stopped cooling

We purchased two of the slim refrigerators and one of them does not cool like the other. We did get a repair company to look at this but he stated he didn™€™t see anything wrong and ™€œreset™€ the refrigerator. The refrigerator still has limited cooling and both refrigerators are set exactly the same. Any input would be very helpful.

After only having the appliance 8months it suddenly just stopped working . I have spent the last 3weeks trying to schedule a successful service call. They have limited selections of vendors (2) that do not seem to want to service and they refuse to replace the product that is still under the limited warranty. I am now going to pursue a consumer attorney to handle the matter.

Perfect for small space

Our kitchen is pretty small and our old fridge was a MONSTER in size. We couldn't have it open and walk by at the same time, we had to wait our turn. I knew I wanted something better for our space. We bought this and everyone who saw it online and the delivery people all kept telling us it was too small, it was a "tiny" fridge. It's really not that small! We are just two people and it's perfect for us. It has great door storage for condiments (with adjustable units), and it's not so deep that bowls of leftovers go bad because we can't see them. With this fridge we can see everything we own and might want.

Can't see when defrosting is reqd. Not frost free!

Choices are limited in this size of refrigerator. Whirlpool appliances have been a mixed bag for us. This refrigerator and freezer worked OK until the freezer drawers started to jam. Since the heat exchanger is enclosed in a plastic housing, you cannot see when defrosting is required. As a result, the ice buildup resulted in damage to the plastic parts in the freezer. I tried to contact Whirlpool customer service and received zero response. This is a design flaw and should be corrected. Fortunately, the plastic cover froze back into place since the screws that pulled out can no longer hold it up.

One year later, problems

Setting at 34 F which is the lowest setting, Temp registers in the 50™€™s on separate ref thermometer. Had to move all food out and only put sodas in. I will be calling the warranty dept for service request. I have checked everything on my end!?

WORST EXPERIENCE with an appliance EVER!!!

Very long story short. The refrigerator never cooled properly. Have WASTED tons of money on having to replace perished food. You have to unplug it to defrost ever ten days. Then it will work well enough for food not to rot for 10 days. In my area they contract Dan- Marc™€™s appliances for repair. They came out right away. NASTY, RUDE man. Took a quick look in the refrigerator, then freezer. He said two parts are needed, office will call me. Office called and said they will let me know when part arrives. Part arrives 3 months later!! Same RUDE NASTY man returned. The parts needed to be installed in the back, but when he was troubleshooting my fuses inside the freezer, he cut the line to the vaporizer and wasn™€™t in least bit remorseful!! Now instead of a semi working refrigerator, I have nothing and ALL of my food and condiments are rotten.

Good size, average features, poor operation

After 4 months the refrigerator would not cool below 50 degrees. Service tech was unable to find the problem. It turns out the refrigerator needed to be defrosted. After 4 months?! Manual did not mention defrosting or that there is a bin in the back that needs to be emptied of water after defrosting. Temperature display is actually 10 degrees warmer than the actual interior temperature for both the refrigerator and freezer. Use a thermometer to determine the actual interior temps. Wish the freezer had an interior light. Steps to reverse doors were pretty easy.

Bought this a few weeks ago and this fridge packs some serious room for food. Love all the drawers in the freezer section. It looks like the freezer can accommodate an ice maker but that wasn™€™t clear on the description. Has water hookup but no water outlet or ice maker. The door also takes up room so make sure there is a couple inches of space to the wall.

I should have read the reviews and recommendations in more detail. Out of 20 some reviews on whirlpool website around 19 folks said this product stopped working within weeks to months. It stopped working for me in 3 weeks. The mess created as everything in the refrigerator was spoiled was insane. While I love Whirlpool I dont recommend this particular product as there seems to be some major concerns

Purchased my frig 6/25/20 Frig never has kept the correct temperature repair has been out on three separate occasions! either to replace or order new parts! I called a local appliance repair company for a second opinion only to find out that the last repair guy put kinks on the coils which causes all the refrigerant to leak out! Was told it™€™s none repairable chambers came out two days later only to order more parts ! I haven™€™t had a working frig in 30 days and the unit isn™€™t a year old ! At this point I™€™m so frustrated I™€™m headed to court

I purchased this fridge in September 2019. Within four months, the fridge condenser and coolant stopped working. Regretfully, others' reviews did not deter me from purchasing this fridge. I implore you: Take them to heart! Although the fridge has neat features, it actually doesn't work. My family (with infant children!!!) ate out of this fridge for weeks--and although it deceitfully said it was 34 degrees, it was actually 60 degrees. It's a miracle that we did not get sick from food poisoning. To be sure, over the course of weeks, we threw out several hundred dollars worth of primarily meat and dairy products, thinking that it was the grocery store's bad food. Finally, we placed a thermometer in the fridge and realized, "The fridge is room temperature!" Not only is this a faulty fridge; it is also dangerous and should be recalled immediately. I will be putting in a consumer report and will urge local and national officials to ban this fridge from the shelves. Unfortunately, Whirlpool has lost my trust as a manufacturer and I strongly suggest that you avoid it all costs. I wish I would have listened to the chorus of individuals and families who had negative reviews of this product.

These kinds of refrigerators are quite common in Europe and I have had them in apartments that I rented and it is just awesome in my apartment in Indiana. Nice Design, Bad Refrigerator

Let me share my Whirlpool experience. I purchased this refrigerator in 07/09/20 after waiting several weeks to have it made. When I received it I questioned to cooling in the top of the unit. No matter what I did I could not get it to cool below 50 degrees. I bought a second thermometer to make sure I wasn't crying wolf. They both verified that the temperature was at 50 degrees. I called Whirlpool service and they set up an appointment for a technical support from someone in my area. The technical service repair then determined that I need a new door. The lead time was 4 to 6 weeks to have that made. So now I have had a dysfunctional refrigerator since purchased in 7/20. We still haven't address the rattle that sometimes occurs and after a 45 minute wait I am told there is nothing they can do because the door is made to order. I believe that this refrigerator is a lemon and what they should do is refund my money and allow me to apply it to a different model. My Whirlpool experience is miserable, believe me I would not buy this refrigerator and have to deal with these people.

We thought this was just what we were looking for. Black, freezer on the bottom and narrow. Fridge works great. Freezer hasn't worked since day one. Service tells me the part "is on order...sorry, we have no idea how long it will take to get the part." It's already been a month. Good thing we have a freezer in the garage or I don't know what we would do. In the meantime, the control pad in the door went from displaying "sometimes" to not displaying at all. Guess I'll call service...

Sorely Disappointed

This refrigerator was plugged in for approximately one week before it completely stopped cooling. Obviously, a warranty service claim and call was issued through Fields Service. The tech that did the initial service call indicated that the unit was leaking coolant and he would have to order a coolant repair kit just to see if it was fixable... 7 weeks later and after repeated calls to Fields that went unanswered and not returned, "miraculously", a call to Whirlpool directly got a response from Fields. The fact that this refrigerator stopped working within a week of being plugged in is ridiculous enough but the complete lack of customer service from the authorized service company adds insult to injury. Deeply disappointed in Whirlpool's product. Regretting purchasing this refrigerator. Will not recommend it. Might even place the entire Whirlpool suite that I purchased on Marketplace and get rid of it all. Assuming that the refrigerator can be fixed...
