Over the counter 1.6 cu. ft Microwave

This unit replaced our 21 year old previous microwave oven. The G.E. oven was exactly the dimensions as described and fit perfectly. It is a basic model with few bells and whistles but that is exactly what we wanted. I recommend this appliance.

Durability and reliability is a big question?

I have been buying the same GE over the range microwave for more than 10 Yrs now. This microwave is the 3rd one. Each Microwave that I bought average life span between 1-3yrs and after that it just dies. I am limited to this GE microwave because of the color and size that I cannot buy a differdnt one. Features and power are very good BUT does it last long????? That's why I am only giving 1 star.

Our first one started blowing the breaker after several years and daily, greater than average use. We were surprised to find the model was still in production, and we ordered it as the replacement. It has the features we need and cooks consistently. Really love the rotating plate, as it reduces the steps needed for making many things.

Replaced Previous GE Microwave same model

Although was the exact same model number had a few features that were different. The tray is approximately 1" less in diameter.. The controls are less automated in that fixed minutes entries required in stead of plate, pastry and so forth. Older version was better although it only lasted 6 years. Is the only model that fits our particular cabinet size and height above the stove

Ok Microwave

I like the microwave but in all honesy this was not the one I had planned on purchasing. The only reason I bought it was because it was the only Bisque colored Microwave I could find. This is the 3rd identical GE microwave I've purchased in the last 6 years. The other two quit after about 2 years of service. I hope this one lasts longer. I have noticed that the door lighter and doesn't sag like the other two.

For a family of seven, we rely on our appliances to work. I realize that things aren't built to last like they used to be but you would expect a microwave to last longer than four years. Our previous one lasted for over 15 years. This ranks right up there with a flooded basement, a dead refrigerator, or a dishwasher that goes kaput. Now I have to hunt down a repair service that works on microwave appliances are no longer under warranty. That's not what I would call taking care of your customers. Of course, I could've shelled out hundreds of dollars for an extended warranty because again, things aren't built to last. Very disappointed.

Functional, but some drawbacks

This is the second time we have purchased this specific microwave. The first one was purchased a little over 2 years ago to replace a GE microwave we had over 12 years. EXCEPT for the fact that you can't see through the door (which is my biggest complaint), we were pleased with the operation...until it stopped working due to two fuses blowing. We contacted a local small appliance repair shop for replacement fuses and replaced the fuses and it worked for one day. The repair shop advised us that they have had to repair several of these microwaves with the same problem and it ended up being a defect in the door latches that resulted in the fuses blowing. We debated about having it repaired, but with the cost of the repair (which was almost as much as a new one) and with no guarantee we wouldn't have the same problem again, we decided to buy a new microwave. We went back to this same one, only because we needed a bisque color to match all our other appliances and this was the only one available in that color that would fit our space. We're hoping that GE has made some improvements so that we don't experience the same problem. We were also hoping they had changed the mesh "screen" on the door so you can see in, but they have not....a real inconvenience as far as I'm concerned.
